About Me

My photo
I've worked in the games industry for over 10 years. I've worked on most platforms in most genres and in most disciplines to some extent. These include: 3D Modelling, Texturing, UI Graphics, VFX, Animation, Design, Scripting and concept work. I currently work at Electronic Arts UK (Guildford) as a 3D Environment Artist.

In the beginning, Wacky Races (DC), Dastardly & Muttley(PS2)..... Circa 2000

The first 3D Artist job I had was at Gremlin Interactive/Infogrames/Atari on a project called 'Wacky Racers' for the then newly released Sega Dreamcast console. My main responsibility was the modelling and texturing of all the vehicles in the game. I also did all the UI graphics, 2D and 3D Fonts, vehicle weapons and animation, a couple of the tracks (design, modelling and texturing) and some of the animation scripting within our bespoke level editor.

After completing this game, we did an updated version for another brand new console the Sony Playstation 2. This involved taking the current game, adding a whole new set of levels (The City) to the current crop and also added extra bells and whistles to the existing tracks. These took the form of more foliage or set dressing, animations, more polygon density etc.

Here's some youtube videos of the game in action...

I've found some more presentation material I thought I'd lost, check these out too...

Here's a short trailer/video for the new PS2 version as it was. Sorry for the low resolution, it was from the days of limited bandwidth and dial up modems lol...

  2. Hey John. Absolutely loved Wacky Races Starring Dastardly & Muttley growing up as a kid. Must have been 20 years ago now since I first found it hidden in a cupboard (I think it was meant to be a Christmas present my parents intended for me and my sister lol). Some of my fondest memories
growing up were playing this with my sister and cousin. And even nowadays I've met some fantastic people online who are just as enthusiastic about this game as I am

Recently I've took a massive intrest in the development history of both versions god Wacky Races and all the promotional materials released for it.

I was wondering if you'd maybe be interested in answering a few questions about your role on the games development or some behind the scenes trivia for a project I'm working on . If not that's totally fine :)

Thanks for 20 years of happy memories with this hidden gem ^_^
